I will resist

In spite of my secret ambition to be a published and popular writer, in spite of the fact that there are less than 10 regular readers and less than 90 hits a day, in spite of the feeling that my words change nothing, in spite of the seductive hike in anonymous traffic that sites like blog soldiers promise, because of my principle of not letting people who know me read this blog, I will perservere with my piddling attempts at building up a base of readers.

jia yu...

btw... have dismantled my blog... which explains why there is a monsoon in place of me... ahaha... feel that i have outgrown the need for a blog... somehow... it was there as a half-measure... to wean me from my previous life as a journalist... slowly, i have overcome the need for the adrenaline fix i get from writing... i shall start another again someday... for the pure joy of writing...

writing doesn't always have to be about changing the world... despite your secret ambitions... it's the small ways, like bringing a smile to one in need of mirth, or consolation to another who is desolate... it still counts, maybe even more than some profound thinker whose work is simply inaccessible to the common man...
but mostly, writing is for one's sanity - catharsis... and if that goal is achieved, who cares about the rest like fame and fortune... which borders fairly close to vanity and is but a fleeting illusion... maya... and i have no illusions, having been there and dunnit...

and i think you're doing the right thing by keeping your blog from people who know you... the danger is that they may use what you say against you... esp. the things that make you most vulnerable...

so keep it up... your words do matter...

Hey there, came here thru Calm one. Read ur 1 nov 2004 entry on racism. First of all, thanks for e compliment that u find Indians sexy. Hahahaha..

Sad to say, each time a chinese kid aging ard 5 or 6, looks at me[or any of my people] n say "apu neh neh", i hit e roof. I almost grab e kid by e collar and yell at his face "ni jiang sa moh!". I m bad at writing it, so pardon me.

But ya, its really frustrating to be treated like this. But i also got to agree there r others who look beyond colors and see us the same way i see themselves.

Having chinese friends as 90% of my friend base, its only natural that i pick up the lanugage. I really throw ppl off the track when i speak in mandrain. Its not perfect, broken here and there. But gd enuff to let ppl know i know their language.

once in e lift, 2 chinese aunties were speaking in mandrain. They were toking abt how smelly indians can get, rite in front of me. i bit my tongue to stop myself frm toking. Just then, my chinese fren called and was toking to me in chinese[ya, tts how my chinese frens tok to me. In chinese]. So i replied back in chinese. The look of horror on aunties' faces. Priceless. Needless to say, their heads were bowed until they left e lift.

Sigh,r we asking for alot? I m gonna blog abt this once i get a break frm my exams. =)

Jus wanted to come by and say "Hats off for treating us like urself and standing up for us"

Cheers

colin - eh, you sure or not? weaned off writing? look at the length of your post! ;) I say, it is only a matter of time... :)

thugchic - your lift story is classic. Those aunties deserved it. I hit the roof when I hear "apu nei nei" too. It is such an imbecilic worldview and it is even worse when grown-ups use the word. Anyway, thanks for popping by! :)
