you like the effect? it's my own "invention"... or at least i've not seen anything like that yet...

short answer: the trick is in the gradient map function...

long answer: gradient maps are simply the contours of each level of lightness or darkness... ranging from black to white... and by using any black and white (desaturated) picture, you can trace out a set of contours...
and then by using photoshop's gradient map function, you can "move" the gradients by loading successive gradient maps to copies of the same picture in which the maps are slightly different than the previous one, creating the illusion of motion... all very tedious but with the help of photoshop's "actions" (which is really a macro that you can record)... the entire process can be pre-taped and run with a click of the button... QED...
