My friend Hm

My friend Hm got married last week. It was supposed to be an outdoor spring wedding at a resort overlooking a magnificent beach front, but it rained: freezing cold rain drops coupled with a gusty wind that chilled your bones. But it didn't really matter anyway, since the atrium it was held in had magnificent ceiling-to-floor windows and hard wood floors that boosted the natural acoustics. With everyone crowded into the small space, it felt cozy, inclusive and intimate.

And besides, who cares about the view when every eye is on the bride? She was radiant -- happy like a child, not at all conscious of herself, enjoying every moment, and unbelievably gorgeous. After the dinner, the bride and the groom opened the dance floor with a beautifully executed Latin dance. Because the groom looked so serious and deadpan (I think he was concentrating very hard on his steps!), it was the perfect foil to his partner's natural charm and flamboyance. She's hot stuff!

(More later. Now have to work.)

i think every bride glows on her special day... perhaps its the expectation of an inflexion point in her life, a magical, fairy-tale moment that she's been waiting for all her life... the culmination of all her girlish dreams... and the fulfillment of her parents' hopes... mighty powerful stuff...

on the other hand, some guys only see the downside... (or may be it's just me, transposing my cynicism here... lol!) maybe that's why he looked so serious and deadpan... thinking of how he was going to settle the bill - platinum mastercard or gold amex?!... and then it dawns on him... he realises that this is just the beginning to a long drawn leakage to his bank account... the loss of his carefree days of bachelorhood... and the end of his wolfpack-lifestyle with the boyz... and sighs the longest sigh of his life thus far... perhaps that's why guys have a buck's night... to say goodbye to the good life... whereas gals have a bridal shower in anticipation of what's to come... different starting points, different assumptions... like some crazy mathematical question where two simultaneous equations are supposed to intersect at one point, and then merge into one there after... i wonder if such an equation exists...

sorry for rambling...
