Because it will puncture your tyres. Both my tyres went out after I cycled over some branches of bouganivillea that was being pruned. Don't be deceived by the sweet pink flowers, it has thorns! Had to push my bike 5.6km home. Fun fun.
Rather deserted in the morning. I saw a number of interesting birds in the marina south park. Too bad I don't know what they were. They were reddish brown and looked like hummingbirds.
Took a break here and read a bit, until it got too hot.
The view.

Wow, wow, time to buy a tyre repair kit? I have punctured tyres a few times over their thorns too, and no steer clear of them!
Sivasothi, you've actually punctured your tyres a few times on their thorns? Whoa.. I hope this is my first and last time..
Eric, I actually don't know how to repair a blown tyre so carrying all that stuff may not help. :) May have to look it up now that I need to though.
re the mirror, haha! :)
the scenary isn't that great.. a lot of it is city and whatever isn't built up will turn into a casino in a few years time. just gotta soak it up while it's still there. :)

:)
great pics! i wish i was there :)
yikes... hopefully the 5.6 clicks that you pushed the bike were on fairly level ground...
how'd you bring your bike to Marina South in the first place? did you bring it on the train or by car?
and was it crazy like East Coast Park? I'd hate to have to contend with a bunch of noobs learning to ride for the first time, or aimless school kids with no idea where they'd like to go...
sigh... monday morning bluez time.... back to work...
btw... check out the wearable technology gallery at cnet... i saw somethings a runner like you may deeply desire:

joan, er.. right. i hope i've purged myself of my wickedness by walking that 5.6km!
anon, me too.. it would have been a lot less boring..
eric, thanks for the advice. i've lots of learn!
ToT, i cycled to marina south to begin with. Altogether, walking included, i covered 15.3km or so. marina south was just about completely desserted. i only passed one group of cyclists coming in as i was pushing my bike out, and they didn't even stop to ask why i was walking!
re the spiffy running gadget, that is really cool, but my running clothes wear out so fast that it isn't even worth it. they last a year or two at most and then they're just really scruffy. it would be "very heart-pain" if it was an expensive gadget-embedded garment!
This reminds me of the cover of the book I'm currently reading.
you know jim, that's kinda uncanny. is it a good book?
yes, please, jim - post a book review!
Hi mis_nomer, you can sign up for the Smurf Bike Clinics. It is run by volunteers and introduces newbies to mountain biking and basic bike maintenance. Good introduction to basics, but they are far and few between. I know two recent graduates whom you could press to demonstrate their new found skills! Put them under some pressure!
Next time, just jump (bunnyhop) whatever's in the way :) If you don't know how, I'll hunt down a video or three on youtube that'll help you learn. Not hard.
(skipped to the posts labelled cycling.. am a cyclist myself)

Me bunnyhop??? Gracious me. I'll probably end up with a punctured tyre AND a bruised bum to match the bloomin' bougainvillea (pi gu kai hua, as my grandmother used to say).
Bruised bum? Noooo
Your bum won't even be touching the seat!
